Week 3 - Assignments, oh my!
The First Essay
We got some more information on the individual assignment; a 1000-word essay where we explain social service systems for child or elder care (or both!) and problematize the various methods. This is a tricky one. My immediate thought from the course litterature so far, something that stood out to me, is the concept of "acceptable and unacceptable conditions", and this in context of child care services seemingly not taking childrens personal perspective into account during assessments was to me an interesting combination. So, that's probably what I'm going to focus in on a bit, even though the essay itself is meant to kind of be a generalized overview to show we've payed attention. I hope to do that _and_ give some thoughts on that specific issue.
Mingling! Making friends!
I've ended up with a little bundle of people I talk to on the regular in my class! I was worried, not gonna lie, about age gap issues. Being 31 and everyone else being upwards of 10-12 years younger than me felt like it was gonna be a hurdle. But honestly, I think because all of us are there for the same reason and the same interest, for a topic that does kind of require a mature starting point, it hasn't been a big issue. We get lunch, we chat about politics and life, and yeah there's some difference in life experiences but for the most part it's just... chill. So that's good!
Stuff. Some day.
So, now that I'm on week 3 and the pace is only increasing, I had to sit down and think properly about my content production. Not just 3D art, models and all, but also streaming. I hate to say it, but I genuinely don't think I'll be able to do streaming alongside studying - at all. Course litterature reading is eating up a vast quantity of my time, and the only thing I could see myself streaming would be "Just Chatting" style study sessions, but I'd get too distracted in those by chat engagement. I could pomodoro it but, what'd even be the point?
That aside, I also don't think I'll have the time or energy for 3D art, or avatar assets. Hell, I barely have time for VR. Wanna know how many times I turned on my headset in the last month? Once. For a 5-6 hour session.
It's a little sad, maybe, but I just feel like my priorities are elsewhere now. I have to keep my eyes on the horizon. So, I think I have to put all content production on an indefinite, "official" hiatus (as opposed to just vibing it out like I was until now). I'll still do the blog posts, I'll be active on social media (Instagram and BlueSky specifically). But other than that... yeah.
Alright. Also, I'm thinking about this blog system. It works, but it's a little bit of a hassle to write the .md files constantly. Might look into a better editor solution. I just really don't wanna do WordPress or anything like that. But I might have to. I dunno.
